  • Do I Stick With Assassin's Creed?

A few weeks ago I decided to sell back a bunch of my games that I knew I wouldn't be replaying. Ar Tonelico: Melody of Elemia, a second copy of Dragon Age 2 (long story on how I had two copies), and Fairytale Fights (an awfully boring game) were a few of the games I decided to ditch. I was ecstatic when the GameStop guy told me I managed to gain $58 in store credit! $58!

Naturally I couldn't help but look around for at least one game to buy, preferably a used game to save money. I came across a $15 Assassin's Creed for Playstation 3. I've been thinking about playing the game for a while since I always hear rave reviews so I figured "What the hell, it's only $15 and technically it's free since I'm not spending legit money."

But to be honest I'm kind of pissed I wasted $15 in store credit because I'm so bored with the game. The concept is pretty cool. I like the whole sneaking around, blending in and basically being able to climb every damn thing in my path, but the game is so slow!

I've already done a few kills and I feel as if the game is simply repeating itself. Not to mention the storyline is so weird with the back and forth and I'm not even engaged enough to want to know more. I think I'm pretty over this game.

In the end a few people mentioned to me that the first game was kind of meh, but that the others were fan-effing-tastic. But apparently the games make more sense if you play the first one. Not sure if I really can do that. I just feel like I'm better off restarting Dragon Age 2 (since I wanted to in the first place) or starting Eternal Sonata (which is made by the same people that make the Tales series I love!)

Should I just suck it up and finish the game or should I simply move on to the sequel? What did you think of Assassin's Creed?

Your really a gamer girl. IGN needs you.lol

@SexyGamerGirl - haha, don't wish. Just make it a reality. If you want it, you'll find a way to get it.

I thought about buying Assassin's Creed when it first came out. The big hoopla was that it's stealth gameplay like Metal Gear Solid, but set in ancient times. I think parkour was mentioned as one of the hype words as well. I saw it and it was too slow for me. I like the concept on gene memory (I think that's what it was), but it's not for me.

  • SexyGamerGirl

@stupid_systemus - Yea, I think I'm just going to trade it in. It just doesn't move fast enough for my liking.

Read a wikia of the story if you want to keep up with little bits (thought AC2 has it covered pretty much), and skip right to Assassin's Creed II.

I think all the games have a slow start, but the AC2 after the "tutorial" finishes up, the game picks up speed and action. The first AC is kind of repetitive and is slow, but proof of interesting concept. Just skip it though.
And agree with Heartbreakkid :D Just would fear for the stupid hate IGN gets for....no good reason anyway.

I gave it a shot after hearing how great it was. Got completely bored of it, I was pretty disappointed as well.

  • Pandiie_Bear

Personally, I never really got into the first game so I never went on the the second or third. From what I've heard, though, the second game is better than the first. If you really feel like you're not going to play it again, just move on. It's not that big of a deal. Plus...the longer you wait, the less you get back for  your games when you trade them it.

I absolutely loved both AC1 and 2, and need the funds to pick up Brotherhood. I guess it all depends on what floats your boat or finds your lost remote.

I love Assassin's Creed.  It is slow and going to each view point can get redundant but the story is intriguing and the people at Ubisoft Montreal tell amazing stories.  I recommend keeping it.

  • dabeni21

the way you feel is how i feel about ffxiii i'm so bored with it now but i want to finish it to know the story line and possibly play part 2 when it comes out.

  • SexyGamerGirl

@dabeni21 - Idk if you saw my post about the sequel but supposedly they revamped it all when FXIII got so many complaints. It actually looks really good. Hang in there. It's a tough game to stick with since it's so linear and you can't do ANYTHING outside the game. So not like FF, but whatever.

  • Crono09

I think that whether or not you stick with it depends on how much you want to see the story. That's pretty much the only reason why I finished the game. The assassinations become more fun as you progress through the game, but the investigations and other things you have to do to get to them only become longer and more monotonous. Also, the next-to-last assassination is extremely difficult. It took me several hours to finally complete it, and I came very close to giving up on it in the process, even though I was almost to the end of the game. However, I felt that the game provides a lot of background for the setting of the Assassin's Creed universe, and the sequels generally assume that you already know the story up to that point. Sure, you can read the story online, but I always find it better to actually experience it myself. If you think that you might get into the story, just stick it out. Otherwise, it's really not worth it.

  • Curious_Kat

    I never played Assassin's Creed.

I DID however thoroughly enjoy the second one. ;D I think I bought it because I needed to kill things and it was there and cheap... Yeah... In any case, the disconnect is nothing that Wikipedia can't solve. I'd say maybe try the second one in a near future.

Also, Eternal Sonata is a cute game. :D I liked the soundtrack a LOT and I enjoyed the plot. Not the best game out there but a lot of fun.

  • SexyGamerGirl

@Curious_Kat - Eternal Sonata looks a lot like Namco's Tales games which are ridiculously fun but very cute at the same time. If it's anything like the Tales series then I think I'm going to be sold.

  • TheCowboy2010

In my honestly opinion I think you should finish the first AC and then move onto AC2 and AC:Brotherhood. I made the mistake of not playing the first two and I had to have my brother explain everything that happened in the first two games.

The major issue you will have with AC is that you are getting into it so late [calenderwise]. The "hype" around the game was well placed, since the use of all environmental items, picking up any weapons, knocking down / breaking things randomly in the environment was amazingly ahead of its time. The way it was layed out, along with the overall storyline, was interesting. There were a lot of things done in the game that just hadnt been done as fluidly before. Lots of really interesting concepts. But now that 4 years have passed since its initial release, a lot of those things that made the game unique are integrated into other games. Put yourself back 4 years - and youll find the hype was meaningful. I'll admit it’s a bit slow to begin (and yes, my one complaint was it was repeditive). But as games go, the storyline is decent for the first game and only builds throughout. I'll again admit that I enjoyed the second and third ones better - but the first one did have the crusader killing… hmm…

Me personally, id stick with it just for the mechanics with the gameplay (using poisons to cause distractions, dropping bodies to draw attention, etc) in spite of the repeditive nature of the tasks. If nothing else, the storyline, when carried across the 3 games, is awesome. It is also fun to use all weapons, and progress through the games to see all of the new toys. As for you, if it isnt fast paced enough for you… then feel free to skip it and read up on it. Unfortunately, while most sources out there will lay out what happened, the experience of seeing it is a lot better than just reading of it. In the end, it is your time and your entertainment though.

    That's a really good question.

I have had the PS3 for a few years now but I just recently (a month and a half ago) purchased an XBOX 360 to play games online with my boyfriend who lives in Ohio (I am Canadian).  Long story short, I got two free games with the purchase and Assassin's Creed II was one of them.  Ryan, my boyfriend, said, "OH MY GOD, YOU'RE SO LUCKY!" because apparently the game is FREAKING AWESOME.  Several friends have agreed.  I am very anal when it comes to my games, though, and I have to buy and beat the first instalment before I play the second.  It's still in its packaging!

Let me know your verdict once you get a little further into the game.  Presently I am focusing on beating Red Dead Redemption and won't be busting out Assassin's Creed anytime soon, but I definitely want to play it at some point.

    see-quell.

not that i've played it but why waste time playing something that you hate for the cause of just knowing the story?  i bet if you just wikipedia-d it, you'd be able to get the cliff notes version.
maybe you should finish it, after all, you wasted some good credits for an old game.
in my opinion, if you hate it, ditch it.
then again im gonna buy god of war 1-3 just to see the whole storyline.  but i hear that's a really awesome series.  now i need to finish up red dead redemption.
  • SexyGamerGirl

@sneakychesire - I bought all the God of War. Saw my bf play 2 and I was so into it. I don't think I'll have a problem sticking with those games.

I think the consensus is to ditch the game and just read up on it.

  • WildBlueYoshi

While I can't say much for or against Assassin's Creed, if you're that bored with it, should you really waste your time? If you're still undecided, give it a few more hours.  If it's still boring, chuck it.

As for Eternal Sonata, I didn't really like it.  It started off really cute and fun, but then it got ridiculous.  I made a post about it a few months ago where I critiqued it pretty harshly.  It just ended up not making a bit of sense, and some of the voice acting is beyond annoying.

  • Hinase

I say: keep up with Assassin's Creed. You'll be messing a lot of the story if you give up that game and jump to the sequel.

Eternal Sonata I do love ;) I just love the music and just everything about it.
@WildBlueYoshi - I can see why it didn't but I really kind of ignored that aspect. I kind of knew that it wasn't going to be a good breaking game or anything like Heavy Rain etc; or of that nature. I just enjoyed it for what it was.
  • methodElevated

The first is kinda crappy, but it was okay for its time.  The second is fantastic.  The third felt very rushed, but it wasn't bad.

  • xsimplepleasuresx

I just finished it myself for the first time, the gameplay is repetitive, but I enjoyed the stealth factor and the fights.  If you want the storyline, I'm sure you can probably find all of the cut scenes online.
